A series of 30 minute programmes shown on ITV in 2005, looking at 7 major
belief systems in Britain : Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism,
Humanism and Paganism. In the programme on Paganism, Druid Emma Restall Orr,
shaman Leo Rutherford, professor Ronald Hutton, and Wiccan Jeannette Ellis,
talk about the various and varying traditions within British Paganism, practice
and theology.
This is a fascinating, informative and positive look at beliefs and perspectives
from seven very different philosophical standpoints. While half an hour for
each is inevitably limited, the programmes don't judge but allows those interviewed
to speak clearly and fully. Nor do they attempt to summarize any of the faiths
or ideas independent of British culture, instead exploring how each has developed
and how each is practised within Britain, which is both useful and realistic.
Well worth seeing.
