TetraPaks, the cartons we now so often buy milks and juices in, are a complicated problem when it comes to recyling, for they are a thick mixture of cardboard, foil and plastic. However, following increasing pressure, the manufacturers have responded. Check their website : http://www.tetrapakrecycling.co.uk/
TetraPak has a site giving details about where you can recycle these carton, giving information on local sites with a map for locating the facilities. http://www.tetrapakrecycling.co.uk/locator.asp
Apparently by 2008 TetraPak plan to have some sort of recycling available in all areas of the country, but you'll see that many areas still don't have facilitites.
If there is no recycling close to you, the site also has labels you can print out so that you can post TetraPaks to be recycled. This isn't a freepost scheme, so is only for those without local facilitities absolutely determined to make a difference immediately.
However, if your area does not yet collect cartons for recycling, a more effective way of making a difference may be to get in touch with your local authority to tell them TetraPak have a National Recycling Officer and a large national recycling fund to help them set up collection schemes. Have a look on the website, call your local authority and encourage them to get involved! There is even an initiative to get schools recycling cartons.
We can each make a difference.
Let's do it.
