SOLITARY WITCHCRAFT COURSE: Third Night: Herbal Magic
Treadwell's Bookshop, 34 Tavistock St., Covent Garden WC2E 7PB

Treadwell's
7.15 pm for 7.30 start. £10.

Third Session
Everyone knows that the old solitary witch knows the secrets of herbs, and can rustle up a charm for luck, love or prosperity. But how does one get proficient? Well, this session gets you started and active with a hands-on session. The underlying principles are explained, and then we get into making three actual herbal magical items in the class. By the end of the evening you will be confident to make things at home, in your own kitchen, often with the ingredients that are there already. Lots of question-and-answer time on practicalities, with free advice on what worked for us. You will be making a sachet, a potion and a candle spell. But also, you will be drawing up your own personalised action plan for what you’d like to make or do at home over the following week.

Course starts Weds 16 July and meets fortnightly. See that date for more details.

BOOKING: Please book in advance via info [at] treadwells-london [dot] com( email) or Tel. +44 (0)20 7240 8906 or via Skype at treadwells-london. Map on our website.

Friday 15 August 2008
LIVING WITH HONOUR: A Pagan Ethics
The Atlantis Bookshop, 49a Museum Street, London WC1A 1LY

Evening Talk at 7 for 7.30 pm
Given the anarchistic nature of most modern Pagan paths, to present a Pagan ethics could be seen brash but this is what Emma Restall Orr has done in her latest book, Living With Honour. At Atlantis, she will talk about the basis of her ideas, reasoning her vision from her own animistic Druidic perspective, exploring the nature of honour, of duty and ecstasy, and where an ethical framework can and should sit within modern Paganism. She'll take questions from the floor from those who've read the book and those who haven't.

Emma Restall Orr is head of The Druid Network, an organisation she set up after stepping away as joint chief of The British Druid Order in 2002. She founded Honouring the Ancient Dead (HAD) in 2004, an advocacy group working with archaeologists, museums and heritage bodies about increasing respect for ancient British human remains. She is a teacher, priest and writer, her previous books including Living Druidry, Druid Priestess and Ritual.

Cost: £5 (incl glass of wine)

SOLITARY WITCHCRAFT COURSE: Fourth Night: Seals, Sigils and Talismans
Treadwell's Bookshop, 34 Tavistock St., Covent Garden WC2E 7PB

Treadwell's
7.15 pm for 7.30 start. £10.

The cunning man and the old woman in the woods, we all know, can draw strange seals upon scraps of parchment, then seal them with wax and thread, in order that ‘things happen’. What are those seals and sigils? Where on earth do you get parchment? and if you did learn what it all meant, what on earth is done with the sealed up little wrap? This session is on the seals and sigils of what can be called ‘talismanic magic’. We show you the guidelines, and the shapes of these actually work – we’ll hand round a few 16th century grimoires to give you a bit of the history of the tradition. Activity for the night will be you making a couple talismanic parchments and a wax seal yourself, and discussion and plans on how you can do this at home on your own. As always, by the end of the evening you should feel confident that you can get started doing these on your own in the following week.

Course starts Weds 16 July and meets fortnightly. See that date for more details.

BOOK LAUNCH AND WORKSHOP: THE OTHER SIDE OF VIRTUE by Brendan Myers
Barnt Green Friends Meeting House, 6 Sandhills Road, Barnt Green B45 8NR (on the outskirts of Birmingham)

Life Heroic and Magical Workshop and Book Release event (in the UK)

Join author Brendan Myers for an evening of Druidic discussion and fun, to celebrate the release of his third book, "The Other Side of Virtue".

For our most important ideas about politics, justice, friendship, true love, the good life, the nature of the soul, the hope for immortality, and even the pursuit of happiness itself, come from that world. In this workshop I hope to show the modern day significance of the original, 'other' side of life.
Cost: £ 3. All profits beyond rent of the hall will go to the Druid Network's tree planting fund.
More information about the book can be found on the website
Brendan will have copies of ""The Other Side of Virtue" and other books available for sale and signing.
