Return to Polyphemus Wood (2006)

By Phil Ryder

The end of November was the date set for the second instalment of what is to be the trilogy of Polyphemus Wood. Screechowl, our respective youngsters and myself arrived at the wood to be greeted once again by the very friendly and helpful Woodland Trust folk. We had been informed previously that Polyphemus is to be one of a few woodlands chosen to be seeded with wildflowers and on arrival we were given the choice of either planting trees or planting wildflowers. Screechowl, together with Nathan and Alex, chose the wildflowers and David and I opted for trees.

The woodland has come on really well since the first planting last year with about 80% of the planted trees having survived. Not only had they survived, but they had thrived, the amount of growth they'd achieved in just twelve months was wonderful to behold.

Well that's it for another twelve months when I'll bring you the final instalment of Polyphemus Wood.
